Australian 2002 Proof Six Coin Year Set – Year of the OutbackAustralia's Inland
Something different comes into the mind of every Australian when the Outback is mentioned. Australian’s think of vast distances, vibrant colours, beautiful scenery, hot, dry plains, flooding rains, weather beaten inhabitants; tough people who have survived in a tough environment over thousands of years. The Outback is intrinsically Australian.
Two coins in The Six Coin Proof Set commemorate the Year of the Outback. The $1 coin depicts the official Year of the Outback logo in colour and the familiar symbol of Australia, the windmill features in ‘as struck’ relief on the 50 cent piece. The original circulating coin designs are featured on the 5c, 10c, 20c and the $2 coins. All the coins are arranged in the now familiar Southern Cross constellation layout.
Images of the Olgas and other inland landscapes beautifully adorn the packaging of the Six Coin Set. The vibrant colours displayed on these set are the result of painstaking patience and dedication of talented Bungendore photographer Michael Lees. The red earth colours so characteristic of the Australian Outback have been simulated in the coin holder of the Proof Sets while the brilliant blues of distant weathered ranges and the wide open skies are evident in the hues of the Proof wallet.
